What are you looking for in a relationship? I ask this question regarding not only dating relationships, but those with friends and family as well. If I wrote a list of things I consider important for a successful relationship, I would include many ideal traits such as honest, dependable, loyal, caring and altruistic. These characteristics are all universally applied to describe a good friend, spouse, girlfriend/boyfriend, or any other relationship one may have. However, it is impossible for a person to have all of those qualities 24-7, because people just aren't perfect. In order for imperfect people like us to have relationships, we have to compromise.
Well, I'm in a relationship with someone who always has all of those traits. He is kind, compassionate, and He loves me more than I can even imagine. He made me a promise that He would never leave me hanging, or not be there when I need him. Even if I talked bad about Him and told my friends that I don't even know Him at all, His opinion of me wouldn't change. Although he hates the bad things I do, all I have to do is tell Him I'm sorry and he will completely forgive and forget. He is the ultimate role model for my life, and I wish I could be more like Him.
A lot of other people are friends with Him, too. My buddy Paul is really close with Him, and He used to write a lot of books about Him and His love for everyone. Paul is dead now, but his words still hold the same meaning they held for people two thousand years ago.
Romans 8:31-39
"So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn't hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn't gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God's children? Who would dare even to point a finger?
The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ's love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture.

It is incredible to know that someone as huge as God is eager to have a personal relationship with me. I feel like I don't deserve it, like I'm not worthy of having a relationship with God. That is why I have to accept His Grace; he never stops loving and caring for me despite the bad things I do everyday. As the passage above says, there is absolutely nothing I can do that will make God loosen the loving embrace He has surrounded me with.
It seems like for some people, a big part of choosing friends is based on their appearances or what effect they may have on you, socially. When you have a relationship with God, the cliques disappear and you become part of your own "in crowd". It doesn't matter if you have five friends or five hundred friends. The only relationship that holds any true importance is with God, and "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (vs. 31 NIV)
Once you have started talking to God and becoming closer to Him, your life will be forever changed. I'm not saying it makes life easier, but it adds a sense of purpose to life. It also reminds you that you aren't alone in the hard times, and gives you hope for the good times ahead.
Romans 8:15-17
"This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It's adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike "What's next, Papa?" God's Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. And we know we are going to get what's coming to us—an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we're certainly going to go through the good times with him!"

I know, I know. I'm in the perfect relationship. But there's no need to be jealous, because this relationship is open to anyone and everyone. In fact, God is practically begging you to take the first step and get to know Him better. Just try having a conversation with Him, just like you would to get to know anyone else. I promise He will be listening, just like a father would listen to his own son or daughter.
As for my current status?
I'm in the perfect relationship, and this one will never end.
